Hip Hop

Hip Hop 1

with Eddie

The essential to learning HipHop is to find your bounce! Not only will you find your OWN bounce but we will implicate the fundamentals. These would be basic grooves, 1-4 steps, and combos that will guide us within this dance culture. A magnificent class for those who are brand new to dance in general. We will be going over HOW to listen to music and catching the BEAT. Using the beat as our guide, we can create and incorporate our own story within dance. Hip Hop dancers should wear shirt/tank top, sweatpants/leggings, and clean sneakers and socks (dancers will occasionally be dancing in their socks). Absolutely no flat shoes (Vans not recommended), slippers, slides, or open-toed shoes. Shoe recommendation: heel support in shoe (lifted/cushion back sole).

With the fundamentals established we can now layer our movement. I like to call it, SET the stage. Understanding Spacial Awareness and implementing all three dimensions can add value to our moves. Energy and Textures give details on HOW we execute moves and make them feel more immersive. Timing and Musicality can change a boring dull 8count into an eye catching piece of work! This class is focused on Spacial Awareness, Energy/Textures, Timing/Musicality and how a combination of these three can multiply your arsenal of movement. Hip Hop dancers should wear shirt/tank top, sweatpants/leggings, and clean sneakers and socks (dancers will occasionally be dancing in their socks). Absolutely no flat shoes, slippers, slides, or open-toed shoes. Shoe recommendation: heel support in shoe (lifted/cushion back sole), no flat shoes (Vans not recommended).

Now that we have the fundamentals down, it’s time to go even deeper into our performance and technique. In Level 3 we build upon our practice by focusing more on the elements of FACE! F–Finesse: Groove (consistent bounce) and Flow (undulations). A–Awareness: Counting (standard) and Musicality (pattern recognition). C–Control: LAB (legs arms body coordination) and weight transfer (across the floors). E–Execution: Retention/Retentiveness (how fast and detailed they pick up dancing) and Texture (standard).
