Tanya Wilson

Tanya has been working on and off at TWDCC since late 2013. She is a homeschooling mom of three Youth Company dancers. She has been raising her children full time and working at the dance studio part time over the years. Her children have been dancing on the TWDCC dance floors since infants, literally.

Tanya Wilson.

Dance has been a passion of Tanya’s since her teen years, and world culture exploration: particularly within the African continent: became an important part of her life early on as well, with taking care of children always her number one priority. She started dance with Latin ballroom dance styles at 15 before soon after falling in love with Modern as she studied with former Limón company dancers in her hometown in upstate NY. She further explored different styles while in dance school in her grandmother’s native Visby, Sweden before then heading to Senegal at 19, where she lived for a few years and studied traditional dance styles from the region such as Djembe and Sabaar, including a brief trip and further djembe study in Guinea.

Her children are born of that culture and have been the focus of her energy since. It has been her absolute pleasure and she is so grateful to be a part of TWDCC in any way possible: a place that combines her love of dance, culture, and kids! A space that has been a home and family for her and her children.
