Jazz Instructor
Jazz 1
with Nicolette
In this class we will cover the fundamental building blocks of Jazz technique and creative movement. We will work on kicks, leaps and chaines as well as classic jazz steps such as step touches, jazz squares, passes, pas de bourrees, chasses, etc. Warm up will include stretches to improve flexibility as well as strengthening exercises to establish strong form. Correct jazz technique and alignment will be incorporated into all aspects, while allowing the students to take creative liberty with their movement. Students will work on balance, timing, musicality and the 8 count. Choreography will be taught in small phrases leading up to a full piece that will be showcased in the recital. Students will be taught the importance of showmanship in preparation for the performance. Dancers are required to wear a tight fitting top and bottoms and jazz shoes. Warm-ups clothes are recommended for the beginning of class. Hair should be pulled back away from the face in a bun or ponytail.
Jazz 2A
with Nicolette
Jazz 2A will continue to build upon the basics covered in Jazz I. Faster-paced choreography and music will be incorporated, as well as more complex movements such as basic turns, leaps, extensions and isolations. We will work on developing stage presence, individuality and confidence while focusing on technique, musicality and precision. Dancers are required to wear a tight fitting top and bottoms and jazz shoes. Warm-ups clothes are recommended for the beginning of class. Hair should be pulled back away from face in a bun or ponytail.
Jazz 2B
with Nicolette
Jazz 2B will continue to build upon the basics covered in Jazz 2A. Students will drill technical skills across the floor and will learn more complex variations of foundational movements. We will focus on flexibility, strength and precision. Students are expected to take class very seriously, in preparation for Jazz 3. Dancers are required to wear a tight fitting top and bottoms and jazz shoes. Warm-ups clothes are recommended for the beginning of class. Hair should be pulled back away from face in a bun or ponytail.
Jazz 3
with Nicolette
Jazz 3 will continue to build upon the basics covered in Jazz 2B. More intricate choreography and music will be incorporated, as well as more complex jazz jumps and turns such as straight-leg, plie and attitude turn. Dancers will focus on axels, calypsos and jumps in second. We will work on furthering stage presence, individuality and confidence while focusing on improving jazz technique. Dancers will work on some jazz improvisation and self-choreography. Dancers are required to wear a tight fitting top and bottoms and jazz shoes. Warm-ups clothes are recommended for the beginning of class. Hair should be pulled back away from face in a bun or ponytail.
Jazz 4
with Nicolette
Jazz 4 will continue to build upon the basics covered in Jazz 3. Choreography will include fast-paced jumps, turns and floorwork. We will strengthen jazz technique by drilling across-the-floor exercises, and doing turns in center. We will continue to work on stage presence, individuality and confidence while focusing on learning new skills and tricks. Dancers are required to wear a tight fitting top and bottoms and jazz shoes. Warm-ups clothes are recommended for the beginning of class. Hair should be pulled back away from face in a bun or ponytail.
Jazz 5
with Nicolette
Jazz 5 will focus on a la seconde turns, switch leaps, and more complex leaps. Choreography will include fast-paced jumps, turns and floorwork. Dancers will learn combos throughout the first half of the season and will be expected to understand technique, timing and presence. We will continue strengthening jazz technique by drilling across-the-floor exercises, and doing turns in center. Dancers will be expected to self-choreograph some sections of our piece for the final performance. Dancers are required to wear a tight fitting top and bottoms and jazz shoes. Warm-ups clothes are recommended for the beginning of class. Hair should be pulled back away from face in a bun or ponytail.
