Ballet Instructors
Ballet 1
with Riley
This class is an introduction to ballet, classroom etiquette, and foundational movement in a structured environment, while developing an appreciation for dance and music. We instill the following concepts: Body awareness/spatial awareness, creating a connection with our fellow dancers, remembering combinations, understanding corrections, understanding music with movement, creative exploration and expression. We will begin class with a welcome circle, stretch, and listen to a song and play a rhythm game to practice one of the following at a time: adagio vs allegro, counting the introductions, counting an 8 count phrase, rhythm patterns, dance style and music style relationship. Dress code: Students are asked to wear their hair in a bun/out of their face. They may either wear a black leotard with pink or skin tone tights and ballet shoes, or white shirt with black leggings. The first class of each month they may wear a colored leotard or colored shirt!
Ballet 2A
with Riley
This class is for children looking to begin a deeper learning in the ballet world through their movement, technique, musicality, and creativity. They will begin class with a stretch and core workout, followed by barre work. The repertoire includes the following: Body alignment, pliés in all six positions, battements: tendu, degagé, and pique, rond de jambes, relevé/elevé, low grand battement, port de coeur, low arabesque, jumping: practice simple sautés, changements, and échappés at the barre. For the second half of class, we move to centre work: Port de Bras, tendus, jumps: Include basic glissades, ballet walks, sautés, échappé sautés, and changements, polonaise and chassé. Dress code: Students are asked to wear their hair in a bun/out of their face. They may either wear a black leotard with pink or skin tone tights or white shirt with black leggings. The first class of each month they may wear a colored leotard or colored shirt!
Ballet 2B

Starting with barre work: Increase work with one hand on the barre, épaulement/head positions, temps liés, battement piqué, fondu, passé and retiré: petite battement, battement frappé, slow fouetté en promenade, low battement développé, soutenu, glissade, jeté dessus, assemblé dessus. Followed with centre work: body line exercises, temps lié: en avant and en arrière, over and under as well; À terre, an adagio, pas de bourrée, jeté dessus, assemblé dessus, beginner balancé, chassé en avant, polka, pas de chat, a petite allegro combination. Dress Code: Students must wear their hair in a bun/out of their face. They may either wear a black leotard with pink or skin tone tights and ballet shoes, or white shirt with black leggings. The first class of each month they may wear a colored leotard or colored shirt!
Ballet 3

For intermediate level dancers ready to explore the intricacies of ballet technique and the artistry of ballet. This class will work at a faster pace than the previous levels and will continue to focus on strength and alignment while incorporating more ballet vocabulary. The class will consist of barre work, center exercises including tendu, adagio, and petit allegro, and across the floor combinations including turns and jumps. Dancers can wear either a black leotard with pink or skin tone tights and ballet shoes, or a black or white shirt with black leggings and ballet shoes. Hair should be pulled back in a tight bun or a ponytail if hair is short.
Pre-Pointe/Beginning Pointe 3
with Raina
For serious dancers interested in dancing en pointe in the future. We will work on strengthening the feet and ankles as well as the surrounding muscles including the legs and abdominals, and dancing with proper alignment of the body. Class will include barre and center work, conditioning and theraband exercises, and implementation of the Pointe Safe tests. Dancers who pass their Pointe Safe tests and are approved for pointe work will begin their pointe work in this class before moving to the intermediate level.
Ballet 4

For dancers ready for more complex combinations and further exploration of the artistry of ballet. Class exercises will be practiced with performance skills in mind at all times. Dancers must have a strong knowledge of ballet vocabulary, technique, and placement. Combinations will be learned quickly and executed at performance levels. The class will consist of intermediate/advanced barre work, center exercises including tendu, adagio, and petit allegro, and across the floor combinations including turns and jumps. Students are expected to take all classes at their level. Dancers can wear either a black leotard with pink or skin tone tights and ballet shoes, or a black or white shirt with black leggings and ballet shoes. Hair should be pulled back in a tight bun or a ponytail if hair is short.
Ballet 5

Intermediate Pointe 4/5
with Raina
For dancers currently en pointe at the intermediate or advanced level. Classes will consist of barre and center work with a focus on building strength, control, and proper technique and alignment en pointe.
Please note: Pointe work is not permitted without permission from the instructor. Intense training and preparation must be taken seriously for several years before going en pointe. DO NOT purchase pointe shoes on your own without consulting your ballet teachers and a pointe shoe expert.
