This fall, we’re changing the format of our classes and registration so we can safely provide in-person, outdoor classes as well as online classes. As dancers, we are adaptable and flexible in mind, body, and spirit: Fall 2020 presents us with an opportunity to stretch our adaptability muscles!

Please take a thorough read-through to understand the new structure of this season.

Dancers will be placed into Cohorts that align with their age and level of experience. Each cohort is capped at 24 dancers total and split into two groups of 12, Group A or Group B.

Classes have been scheduled so that each Cohort has a set of in-person/outdoor and online classes they can choose from. Dancers are encouraged (but not required) to take the full amount of classes offered for their assigned Cohort.

Cohorts have designated days (Monday-Friday) when they are allowed to attend Outdoor Classes. For example, Cohort 3 will attend classes for their level on Tuesdays. On Saturdays Hip Hop will be offered. Leveling for Hip Hop will be determined outside of assigned Cohorts.

One Group within each Cohort will have in-person classes at a time.

Cohorts are assigned by Micha Scott, Artistic Director. For questions regarding cohorts, please email Micha Scott at micha.twdcc@gmail.com

Families and Dancers will be able to decide whether they would like to participate in outdoor, in-person classes on the Tannery Campus. If a dancer OPTS IN to outdoor classes, then they will randomly be placed in either Group A or Group B.

Due to health regulations, mandates, and the guidelines required to hold outdoor classes, each outdoor class is capped at 12 dancers. There may be more than 12 dancers in an online class.

Our Fall Semester is split into multiple Sessions:

  • Session 1 (6 Weeks: August 31-October 10),
  • Session 2 (6 Weeks: October 12-November 21),
    • No classes for Thanksgiving Break: November 23-November 28
  • Session 3 (3 Weeks: November 30- December 19)

Sessions 1 & 2  will be broken down into 3-week periods:
Group A will attend outdoor as well as supplemental online classes from August 31-September 19;  Group A will attend only ONLINE classes September 21 – October 10.

Group B will attend only ONLINE classes August 31-September 19; Group B will attend outdoor as well as supplemental online classes from September 21-October 10.

Cohort assignments will be emailed to each dancer by August 9. Once dancers have registered for their desired classes within their Cohort, Groups will be randomly assigned and emailed to all registered dancers by August 24.

Classes with fewer than 12 enrolled students will be allowed to attend in-person classes for the whole Session.

Classes with fewer than 3 enrollees will be cancelled due to low-enrollment.

TWDCC places the well-being of every participant at the core of Fall 2020. To ensure the safety of all involved, the following protocols will be on the waiver for each dancer. This waiver must be signed and completed prior to registration.

  • All students and staff are required to wear masks at all times during outdoor classes. Dancers will be given routine breaks between classes and at regular intervals throughout the class.
  • There will be no more than 12 dancers in an outdoor class.
  • All participants will have their temperatures digitally taken upon entry to outdoor class.
  • All students and staff are required to use hand sanitizer upon entry, and avoid touching our faces.
  • All students and staff are required to stay on their dance square during outdoor classes.
  • All students and staff are required to bring their own water bottles and enough water for each day. No community refills will be available.
  • All students and staff are required to use the restroom one at a time during outdoor classes. There will be extra staff on hand to escort dancers to the restroom.
  • Staff will sanitize each dance square at the end of each outdoor period of classes each day.
  • There will be no contact choreography and we ask that dancers keep a 6 ft distance on and off the dance floor during outdoor classes.
  • Dancers will keep their distance from other dancers.
  • If an injury occurs staff will put on gloves to assist dancers.
  • Nonparticipants or spectators are not allowed at this time. Parents are asked to park in the 1060 Lot, escort their dancers to the outdoor dance area, and pick up dancers promptly.
  • In the event of a confirmed Covid-19 case from one of our community members, the cohort that dancer is placed in will be moved to online only classes for a minimum of 14 days and dancers will be expected to take class online. Dancers will do their part by not attending in-person class with any COVID-19 symptoms or knowledge of exposure.
  • TWDCC will continue following city regulations and case numbers closely. If Santa Cruz issues a SIP order or if statewide closure measures are being applied, TWDCC will cease in-person classes to resume all programming online.
  • If inclement weather affects our ability to hold outdoor classes then all classes will be moved online for that day.

When you register for Session 1, you will pay for classes from August 31 – October 10th.

The Class/Week Package you choose should reflect the number of BOTH outdoor and online classes you are going to take.

You will make two payments per Session, charged to the card you provide in the Purchase Checkout or the card attached to your PayPal:

Fall 2020 FAQ

Masks are mandatory for all TWDCC participants: staff, teachers, and students will all be masked, during the entirety of outdoor, in-person classes. This precaution is necessary in order for us to gather, and it is a compromise necessary in order to not dance solely online.

It is both a safety precaution to protect TWDCC students, teachers, and staff, as well as people who live and work on the Tannery Campus, whose public space/backyard we will use for our classes.

We are acutely aware that dancers will need extra breaks during these outdoor classes, and because teachers are required to wear masks too, they will be incorporating breaks and  modifying movement to accommodate everyone (including themselves) learning how to dance together under these new circumstances.

Follow these steps to register for HYBRID (Outdoor and online) and ONLINE ONLY classes.
